What Is It?
The Canadian Forces Snowbirds, officially known as 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, are Canada's iconic military aerobatic team. Made up of members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Department of National Defence employees, the Snowbirds showcase the incredible skill, precision, teamwork and professionalism of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Flying their distinctive red-and-white CT-114 Tutor jets, the Snowbirds perform breathtaking formations and manoeuvres that demonstrate just how much coordination and precision goes into military aviation. Their performances have inspired audiences across Canada, the United States and beyond for decades.
A Proud Canadian History
The Snowbirds' story began in 1971 at 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where the team was formed as Canada's new air demonstration team. The name "Snowbirds" was selected through a "Name the Team" contest held at the local Moose Jaw base elementary school.
The team was officially designated the Canadian Forces Air Demonstration Team in 1975, and in 1978 became 431 Air Demonstration Squadron.
The squadron's history goes even further back. 431 Squadron was originally formed as a bomber squadron during the Second World War in 1942, serving in Europe before later being reformed and ultimately becoming the home of Canada's premier air demonstration team.
Since 1971, the Snowbirds have become one of Canada's most recognizable symbols, performing more than 2,700 air displays for over 140 million people. They have travelled from coast to coast and have even performed as far north as Inuvik and as far south as Mexico.

This isn't just another season for the Snowbirds. 2026 marks 55 years of the Snowbirds, and the Royal Canadian Air Force has announced that this will be the team's farewell season with the CT-114 Tutor. This is the last time you will be able to see the Snowbirds in Eastern Ontario this decade!
